The Katsina State Executive Council has authorized the allocation of N74.5 billion for the expansion of township roads in the metropolis. Sani Magaji-Ingawa, the state’s Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, revealed this development during a press briefing in Katsina on Monday.
The approved project encompasses various significant road expansions, including the construction of the eastern bypass from Dutsin-ma road to Kano road, passing through Daura road and ending at Yandaki village in Kaita Local Government area. Additionally, the initiative involves the dualisation of the Katsina Central Mosque road, extending from Kofar-Marusa to Kiddies roundabout, and terminating at WTC roundabout. Another dualisation project is planned for the Yandaki-Shinkafi to Kofar-Sauri road within the metropolis.
The commissioner also highlighted the extension of the dual carriageway from Airport Junction to the proposed bye-pass along Daura road and the extension from Barhin Estate to the proposed bye-pass along Mani road. Furthermore, plans include the dualisation of Water Board Roundabout through Kofar-Sauri to Katsina Central Mosque and the dualisation of the road behind Central Police Station to Kofar Kaura underpass.
These projects have been entrusted to the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) with an anticipated completion period of 24 months. According to Mr. Ingawa, these contracts are part of the State Urban Renewal Project, aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure and stimulating commercial activities within the state.
