Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) has been declared the winner of the Plateau North senatorial re-run election, securing 122,442 votes to defeat his closest rival, Yakub Muhammad Safiu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who garnered 53,980 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer for the senatorial re-run elections, Prof. Nestor Chagok, announced the results in the early hours of Monday, declaring Dachungyang as the winner.
In a similar vein, the House of Representatives re-run election for Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency saw the victory of Daniel Asama of the Labour Party (LP). Asama secured 66,422 votes, defeating Mohammed Gwani of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), who received 61,670 votes, according to the Returning Officer, Prof. James Garba.
These re-run elections were ordered by the Court of Appeal in Abuja following the nullification of the initial victories of Musa Agah of the PDP in the House of Representatives and Simon Mwadkon of the PDP in the Plateau North Senatorial seat. The court cited the PDP’s lack of valid structure to field candidates as the reason for nullification.
Despite being excluded from the ballot papers by INEC due to this reason, the PDP mobilized and supported the ADP for the Senate seat and LP for the House of Representatives seat, aiming to prevent the APC, the main opposition party in the state, from winning any of the seats.
