Katsina State Government Distributes N4bn World Bank Grant to 150 Primary Schools in the State

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, has launched the distribution of N4.054,795,838 billion Improvement Grants to 150 selected primary schools in the state. The funds, disbursed under the “Transforming Education System at State Level (TESS)” program, aim to enhance the educational infrastructure and facilities in these schools.
The flag-off event took place at Shagumba Primary School in Batagarawa Local Government Area, as announced by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed. Governor Radda explained that the schools were chosen based on criteria such as the extent of dilapidation, the number of students in nearby communities, and the lack of water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities.
Governor Radda emphasized that the School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) would oversee the proper utilization of the funds. He urged these committees to ensure transparent and efficient use of the grants for their intended purposes.
In related news, Governor Radda empowered 2,040 farmers in Katsina, ordered a probe into allegations of sexual harassment by a school principal and a Divisional Police Officer (DPO), and inaugurated the Community Watch Corps to combat banditry and other crimes in the state.
Governor Radda also directed any recently-recruited public school teachers who rejected their initial postings to resign, to allow other qualified candidates to fill the vacancies. He instructed the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, SUBEB Education Secretaries, and Coordinators of Zonal Education Quality Assurance to ensure teachers’ punctuality and to report any insubordination or absenteeism.
The Coordinator of TESS, Binta Abdulmumini, highlighted the program’s goal of reintegrating several out-of-school children in Katsina back into the education system.
