Nigerians ended the week with a peaceful protest in Lagos on Saturday, expressing their concerns about the country’s rising cost of living. The protesters, including market women, men, and youths, gathered in the Ibeju-Lekki area, holding placards with various messages criticizing the government’s handling of the hardship.

The women at the protest carried placards with inscriptions such as “Baba Tinubu, Nigerians are hungry” and “Tinubu, come and rescue us,” highlighting their frustrations with the current economic situation.

Recent days have seen protests in Kogi, Osun, Niger, and Kano states, with Nigerians voicing their discontent over the escalating cost of living following the removal of the petrol subsidy in May 2023.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Itse Sagay, criticized President Bola Tinubu for abruptly removing the fuel subsidy in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2023. Sagay, who previously chaired the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption under former President Mohammed Buhari, stated in an interview with Channels Television on Friday that Tinubu’s decision had caused significant hardship for Nigerians.
