Emir of Kano Raises Alarm Over Worsening Hunger and Insecurity Under Tinubu’s Administration

Emir Aminu Ado Bayero of Kano expressed deep concerns about the worsening hunger and starvation in Nigeria during a meeting with First Lady Remi Tinubu. He noted that while the issue predates the current administration, it has become more severe since President Bola Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.
Emir Bayero also highlighted the alarming rate of insecurity in Nigeria and urged for immediate and decisive actions to address the growing menace.
He emphasized the importance of Mrs Tinubu’s role as a channel to communicate these pressing issues to her husband, the president, stating that her influence could help in addressing the country’s challenges more effectively.
Regarding the controversial proposal to relocate the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) offices to Lagos, Emir Bayero called for more transparency from the government. He emphasized the need for clear communication with Nigerians to ensure they understand the rationale behind such decisions.
Emir Bayero’s remarks come in the wake of protests in several states over the high cost of food, with prices nearly doubling in the past nine months since President Tinubu took office. In response, the president has directed the Ministry of Agriculture to release 42,000 metric tonnes of grains to alleviate the food crisis.
