National Assembly Crafting Legislation for State Police and Improved Intelligence Gathering

The National Assembly is currently drafting legislation aimed at establishing state police forces and enhancing intelligence gathering to combat banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
This development was revealed by Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate leader, while speaking on behalf of all the recipients of honorary doctorate degrees during a ceremony at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The legislative body also urged local government councils, traditional rulers, and community leaders to mobilize local vigilantes, hunters, and capable youths to protect their communities and territories.
Bamidele emphasized, “The National Assembly is working diligently to create the necessary legal framework to strengthen community policing and enhance the overall security architecture. This legislative effort is crucial to protecting lives and property, maintaining democracy, and advancing our nation’s progress.
“The recent cases of abduction, killings, displacement of populations, and disruption of socio-economic activities in various states underscore the urgent need for decisive action by all stakeholders.”
In addition to Bamidele, who was honored with a Doctorate in Private Law, the university also conferred similar honors on Senator Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, and Hon. Yusuf Daji, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Navy.
