Former Edo State Governor and current Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, Adams Oshiomhole, has stirred debate with his recent comments on the lingering impact of ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies on Nigerians. Speaking in an interview on Channels Television, Oshiomhole expressed concern over what he described as the enduring suffering of Nigerians as a result of policies implemented during Buhari’s administration.

Highlighting his stance on the matter, Oshiomhole emphasized that President Bola Tinubu should not be held accountable for the decisions made by the previous administration. He praised Tinubu’s commitment to prioritizing national interests over partisan concerns, citing examples of where Tinubu has demonstrated this commitment.

“My first loyalty is to Nigeria,” Oshiomhole declared. “I expressed my concerns about the reckless policies that seemed to exacerbate the suffering of the populace. I distanced myself from those policies, and I was not alone. Several governors also opposed them, seeking legal redress. However, we are still grappling with the long-term consequences of those policies.”

Despite acknowledging that they were implemented under the party’s platform, Oshiomhole stressed that Tinubu, like himself, was not directly involved in the decision-making process of the previous administration. “Tinubu was not a minister or adviser in that government,” Oshiomhole clarified. “He never took a contract from that government. Therefore, he cannot be held accountable for its actions, whether right or wrong.”

These remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some applauding Oshiomhole’s bold stance and others questioning the timing and motive behind his comments.
