ASUU Lecturers Receive Two Months’ Payment, Government Commences Salary Release

The Federal Government has commenced the payment of seized salaries to public university lecturers affiliated with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Comrade Nobert Oyibo Eze, the Chairman of ASUU at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka branch, confirmed this development to DAILY POST.

“Yes, they have started paying. Even though I’m yet to receive mine, some of our lecturers have received two months’ payments out of the outstanding eight months’ withheld salary,” Eze said.

Another lecturer also informed DAILY POST that the federal government began payments on Sunday. He confirmed that he has received two months’ salaries out of the eight months owed to him.

The release of these salaries follows President Bola Tinubu’s approval in October 2023 to release four of the eight months’ salaries withheld from ASUU workers.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari had implemented a ‘No Work, No Pay policy’ against ASUU for embarking on an eight-month strike in 2022.
