The Nigeria Customs Service has announced plans to distribute seized food items to alleviate the hardship faced by Nigerians due to food insecurity and high prices. Customs spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada revealed that the distribution would occur after all items had been confirmed safe for consumption.

This initiative, led by Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, is in response to the critical challenges of food security and soaring food prices. The move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s food security agenda and aims to serve the best interests of Nigerians while promoting economic stability.

The distribution of seized food items, certified fit for consumption, will be carried out nationwide to improve access to essential food items. The Nigeria Customs Service will oversee the equitable distribution of these items in areas where they operate, ensuring that they reach ordinary Nigerians in need.

The modalities for the disposal and distribution of the food items will be communicated through Nigeria Customs Service formations nationwide, with a commitment to transparency, fairness, and public safety. The Service pledges to manage this exercise diligently to ensure that the benefits reach those most in need.

The Nigeria Customs Service reiterated its dedication to safeguarding the nation’s food security and advancing the economic well-being of all Nigerians. With the support and cooperation of the public, the Service aims to overcome these challenges and contribute to a more prosperous future for Nigeria.
