Governor Makinde Urges NLC President to Halt Propaganda, Affirms States’ Payment of Wage Awards

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has cautioned the National President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, against spreading misinformation. Makinde rebutted Ajaero’s assertions, stating that states are indeed fulfilling their obligations by paying wage awards to workers.

Speaking to members of the NLC and other protesters gathered at the Total Garden Roundabout in Ibadan, Makinde emphasized the need for calm, assuring the public that the current challenges faced by Nigerians will soon be overcome.

Addressing the protesters, Makinde highlighted the importance of unity during challenging times, urging everyone to work together to tackle the nation’s problems. He emphasized the necessity of reforming systems, acknowledging that such processes often come with challenges.

Makinde also addressed Ajaero directly, stating, “This is not the time for lies and propaganda. No one can say that no state is paying wage awards, as we have been paying it to our workers and pensioners since October 2023.”

The governor’s remarks underscore a commitment to transparency and accountability in governance, emphasizing the importance of factual information in public discourse.
