Mike Ozekhome Criticises Tinubu-led Administration, Says Nigeria Facing Hunger and Starvation

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, has criticised the policies of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration, accusing it of pushing Nigeria back into a state of hunger and starvation reminiscent of the 1983 era. Ozekhome made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he highlighted the negative impacts of removing subsidies without adequate measures to mitigate the resulting challenges.
Ozekhome expressed concern over the government’s tendency to blame past administrations for current issues, emphasising the need to reassess current policies. He criticised the removal of subsidies without any attempts to cushion the devastating effects, stating that Nigeria has regressed to a state similar to that before 1983, characterised by hunger and starvation.
The legal expert called for a return to the drawing board, stressing the importance of addressing inherited challenges and formulating policies that prioritise the well-being of the Nigerian people. He urged the government to take proactive measures to alleviate the suffering of the citizens, especially in the face of economic hardships.
Ozekhome’s comments highlight the growing discontent and criticism of the Tinubu-led administration’s policies, particularly regarding economic management and social welfare. As Nigeria grapples with various challenges, including inflation and rising costs of living, there is a growing call for a rethink of policies to ensure the welfare of the populace.
