The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has revealed plans by the Ministry to commence the distribution of 42,000 metric tons of grains across all 36 states of Nigeria. This distribution, approved by President Bola Tinubu, aims to alleviate the hardship faced by many Nigerians, especially in the wake of recent food warehouse looting incidents.
In a statement posted on his official handle, Senator Kyari highlighted the Ministry’s collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Department of State Service (DSS) to ensure that the grains reach the intended beneficiaries in the appropriate quantities and packaging.
Additionally, the Minister announced the release of 58,500 metric tons of milled rice from mega rice millers into the market to stabilize prices and availability. This move is part of the Ministry’s efforts to address the challenges faced by Nigerians, particularly in accessing affordable food supplies.
Senator Kyari expressed his empathy for those affected by the current hardships in the country and reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to the well-being of the Nigerian populace.
