EFCC’s Intercepts 21 Trucks Smuggling of Food and Non-Food Items to Chad, Central African Republic, and Cameroon

Operatives from the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have seized 21 trucks carrying food and non-food items destined for N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic, and Cameroon. The interception occurred during a sting operation along Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads in Borno State.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale disclosed that the trucks were found to have concealed food items, a discovery made possible by the keen vigilance of the EFCC operatives. The trucks’ waybills indicated their destinations as N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central Africa Republic, and Cameroon.
The interception of these trucks aims to address food insecurity caused by the smuggling activities of unscrupulous individuals across the country. Those arrested in connection with the trucks are undergoing profiling and will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
The EFCC’s action highlights the ongoing efforts to combat smuggling activities that undermine food security in Nigeria and neighboring countries. It also emphasizes the importance of vigilant enforcement to curb illegal trade practices.
