Repent or Leave Kano: Hisbah Commander Grants Two-Week Repentance Grace Period for Immoral Activities

Kano State Hisbah Commander General, Aminu Daurawa, has granted a two-week grace period for individuals engaged in “immoral activities” to repent or leave the state. This decision comes after a meeting with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, which resolved previous disagreements.

Daurawa stated in an interview with BBC Hausa that the mission to maintain Kano’s moral standards continues, with the Governor pledging ongoing support to strengthen Hisbah’s operations.

He clarified that despite a recent disagreement, the Governor rejected his resignation and encouraged him to continue leading Hisbah. Daurawa expressed his commitment to working harder to achieve the organization’s goals.

Addressing those promoting immorality in Kano, Daurawa emphasized the two-week grace period for repentance. Hisbah has prepared forms called ‘Na tuba’ for individuals to fill, offering capital and business training for those who repent. However, those unwilling to change their ways are urged to leave Kano, as the state does not tolerate immorality.

In addition to the grace period, Daurawa outlined plans to enhance Hisbah operations. This includes improving staff training and establishing a dedicated Hisbah Training School, offering diplomas, NCE qualifications, and even degrees in Hisbah activities. New departments, such as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and a Legal department, will also be established to ensure compliance with the law.
