Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has issued a warning about planned attacks on schools and rural farm communities in the state. The alarm was raised in a statement by his spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, highlighting intelligence reports indicating a deliberate mobilisation of criminal elements to target rural areas.
The governor expressed serious concern over the alarming reports, noting that the attacks were aimed at disrupting farming activities through kidnappings and assaults on rural farm settlements. He highlighted that schools were also being targeted, potentially to hinder the implementation of the safe school initiative and the state’s multi-billion naira infrastructure plan.
In response to the security threat, Governor Adeleke disclosed that a meeting of the state security council had been convened. He issued preliminary directives to school authorities to enhance the safety of pupils and students, including clearing overgrown weeds in school environments and maintaining close liaison with the Parents and Teachers Association to secure school premises.
Additionally, Adeleke directed the Food Security Committee to submit an interim report for immediate actions to safeguard farms and secure farmers as the rainy season approaches. He emphasised the need for major reforms within the Amotekun security force to improve efficiency and address internal rivalry, opposition penetration, and external intervention affecting its operations.
Governor Adeleke reassured the public of his administration’s proactive steps to secure schools and farming communities, asserting that the state would not tolerate attempts to destabilise its peace and harmony. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any unusual movements or activities to security agencies.
The governor’s warning comes amidst growing concerns over security threats in the state, highlighting the need for enhanced security measures and community vigilance to thwart potential attacks. Adeleke’s proactive stance and call for public cooperation underscore the importance of collective efforts in maintaining peace and security in Osun State.
