The Kaduna State Government has announced a substantial allocation of N11.4 billion for the distribution of the second batch of palliatives. Governor Uba Sani stated that the government is committed to providing relief to the poor and vulnerable in the state, with plans underway for the third phase of the palliative programme in the coming months.
A significant portion of the funds, N3.3 billion, has been released for the payment of pensions, gratuities, and death benefits to the families of deceased civil servants. Over 1,300 beneficiaries have already received alerts, and civil servants are also benefiting from a N500 million revolving loan scheme.
Governor Sani expressed satisfaction with the commencement of the distribution of the second batch of palliatives, consisting of 128 trucks of rice and maize worth N3.4 billion. The state aims to reach 200,000 households, approximately 1 million people, to alleviate the hardships faced by the less privileged citizens.
In addition to the palliatives, the state has allocated N4.2 billion for various intervention programmes, including cash grants, fertilisers, and farm inputs. Grants are being disbursed to 7,500 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with amounts ranging from N100,000 to N1,000,000 based on the size of the businesses. Furthermore, fertilisers and other farm inputs are being distributed to 5,091 farmers.
The governor highlighted the urgency of these intervention programmes, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to supporting its citizens during these challenging times.
