Voice and Data Services Recovering After Undersea Fibre Optic Disruptions

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced the restoration of voice and data services that were affected by cable cuts. The NCC’s director of public affairs, Reuben Muoka, confirmed in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja that services have been restored to about 90% of their peak capacities after disruptions on March 14. The disruptions were caused by cuts in undersea fibre optics along the coasts of Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.
Muoka explained that all operators impacted by the cuts have implemented recovery capacity from submarine cables unaffected by the cuts. Mobile network operators (MNOs) have assured the commission that data and voice services will operate optimally while the undersea cables undergo full repairs.
The NCC expressed gratitude to telecom consumers for their patience and understanding during the downtime caused by the undersea fibre cuts. Muoka highlighted that MNOs have activated alternative connectivities to restore normalcy to the situation.
