Tinubu Plans Cabinet Reshuffle Ahead of First Anniversary

As President Bola Tinubu’s first year in office approaches on May 29, 2024, there are indications of an imminent reshuffle in his cabinet, causing panic among ministers.

Sources within the Presidential Villa, Abuja, revealed that President Tinubu is preparing to launch a three-step approach to assess his ministers and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in preparation for the reshuffle.

The first step of the approach involves providing the public with a platform to give feedback on the performance of each minister based on President Tinubu’s targets for each ministry. This feedback will be crucial in determining which ministers will be retained and which ones may be replaced due to poor performance.

Following the public feedback, the Policy Coordination office will conduct its evaluation of the ministers’ performance. Lastly, a group of consultants will also provide their assessments, which will collectively serve as the basis for the reshuffle.

The Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed Bala-Usman, had earlier hinted at the possibility of ministers being dropped if they fail to deliver on their mandates. She emphasized the role of ministerial delivery desk officers in providing feedback, tracking progress, and reporting challenges to ensure effective implementation of presidential priorities.

The impending reshuffle has created a sense of urgency among ministers to perform effectively and meet the targets set by President Tinubu. The public feedback mechanism is seen as a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in the government’s performance evaluation process.
