Tinubu Appeals for Ministerial Breathing Space, Urges National Assembly Restraint in Summoning Officials

President Bola Tinubu has called on members of the National Assembly to show restraint in summoning heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) before parliamentary committees. Speaking at a Ramadan fast-breaking event in Abuja with House of Representatives Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, and the House leadership, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and accountability in governance through oversight activities but cautioned against excessive summoning that could disrupt operations and hinder service delivery.
Acknowledging the vital role of oversight in governance, President Tinubu urged lawmakers to consider the primary duties of each agency and the responsibilities of officials before issuing summons. He highlighted the need for a balanced approach that respects the duties of officials while ensuring accountability.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in the National Assembly’s ability to uphold good governance, noting the positive relationship between the executive and legislative arms. He praised the expeditious passage of bills aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians, emphasizing the need for legislators to remember their constituencies and support the less privileged.
Regarding recent tragic events, President Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to the families of soldiers killed in Delta State, pledging that their sacrifices would not be in vain. He announced plans for a befitting burial and national honours for the fallen heroes.
In response, Speaker Abbas emphasized the importance of forgiveness, generosity, and prayers during Ramadan, calling for unity and support for President Tinubu. He praised the synergy between the executive and legislative arms, noting their continued efforts for the progress of the country.
