Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has made key appointments in his administration, including the appointment of his brother, Ferdinand Uzodimma, as the Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of general services. Ferdinand Uzodimma brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served as a Councillor, Transition Committee Chairman, and Sole Administrator of Oru East Local Government Area.

In addition to his brother’s appointment, Governor Uzodimma also reappointed Cosmos Iwu as the Secretary to the Government. Cosmos is the younger brother of Maurice Iwu, a former national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The reappointments also include Nnamdi Anyaehie as Chief of Staff, Patrick Ekeji as Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration), and Olisaemeka Sydney Agbor as Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations). All four officials served in the same capacities in Uzodimma’s first four-year term.

The governor also named Sam Anyalewechi Nwaobasi as Special Adviser on Programme and Policy Implementation/Monitoring. These appointments, according to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesman, Oguwike Nwachuku, are to take immediate effect.

Governor Uzodimma congratulated the new appointees and urged them to bring their professional competence to bear in driving the vision of the Shared Prosperity 3R Government of Imo State. The appointments have been met with mixed reactions, with some praising the governor’s choice of experienced individuals while others criticise the perceived nepotism in the appointment of the governor’s brother to a key position. The debate surrounding these appointments underscores the importance of transparency and fairness in governance.
