Nigerian government secures release of over 1,000 abducted persons – Ribadu
The Nigerian Government, under the leadership of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, has successfully secured the release of over 1,000 individuals recently kidnapped in the northern region of the country. Ribadu made this announcement on Monday during the reception of 23 individuals rescued on Sunday, who had been abducted last September from the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, located in the North-west region of Nigeria.
The rescue operation, coordinated by Major General Adamu Laka, the Coordinator of the National Counter-terrorism Centre, led to the liberation of the kidnapped students and staff near Kuncin Dutse, a village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
In his address to the rescued persons, Ribadu emphasized the government’s commitment to freeing unlawfully held individuals, with over a thousand victims having been released thus far. He highlighted the government’s approach of conducting these operations discreetly to ensure the privacy and safety of the rescued individuals.

Among the 23 rescued individuals were 15 students and eight university workers, along with a woman abducted in Funtua, Katsina State. Notably, nine of the female students had been released earlier last month after spending 178 days in captivity.
Ribadu congratulated the rescued individuals and their families on their safe return home, urging them to view their ordeal as a test of resilience rather than a source of weakness. He expressed gratitude to the parents of the rescued victims for their patience and understanding throughout the ordeal.
The National Security Adviser highlighted that the recently rescued students marked the final group of victims from a series of mass abductions that the government had successfully addressed in recent months. Moving forward, efforts are being intensified to bolster law enforcement and security measures aimed at preventing future abductions and enhancing security in vulnerable communities.

Ribadu also acknowledged the dedication and sacrifices of security and enforcement agencies involved in the rescue operations. Additionally, he expressed appreciation for the leadership and support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in facilitating these successful rescue missions.
In conclusion, the Nigerian Government, through the efforts of the National Security Adviser and security agencies, has achieved significant success in rescuing over a thousand individuals abducted in the northern region. The government remains committed to safeguarding the security and well-being of its citizens and is implementing measures to prevent future abductions and enhance overall security across vulnerable areas.
