Ambassador Matthew Wilson, the Permanent Representative of the United Nations and World Trade Organization, emphasized the critical role of innovation in addressing food security challenges, particularly in developing countries. Speaking at the unveiling of Divasity’s new CEO, Thokozile James, and the launch of the Divasity-WTO Funding and Market Readiness Programme, Wilson underscored the importance of youth, innovation, and small businesses in shaping the future, along with the significance of South-South cooperation.
Wilson highlighted the Divasity-WTO programme’s ambition and energy, which aims to empower entrepreneurs with access to capital and global markets. He stressed the urgency of supporting small businesses, especially in the agribusiness sector, in light of challenges such as the pandemic, climate change, and geopolitical disruptions affecting food security.
The Divasity-WTO initiative aims to revolutionize the agricultural sector by providing inclusive, accessible, and sustainable support to small-scale farmers in Nigeria. Through technological innovation and entrepreneurship, the programme seeks to address the pressing need for new approaches to food production in the face of the climate crisis.
Co-founder Chigozie Ubanagu emphasized the programme’s commitment to driving positive change and economic empowerment for all stakeholders in the agricultural sector. The event also featured inspiring accounts and insights from dignitaries and experts, further highlighting the importance of innovative solutions in agricultural development.
Divasity founder Adeola Adebayo expressed pride in the success of the event and optimism for the future, citing the leadership of Thokozile James and the potential of the new programme to make significant strides in empowering entrepreneurs and transforming the agricultural landscape.
