Lagos-Calabar Highway: Peter Obi Is Hypocrite, Demolished Houses In Anambra, Refused To Pay Compensation – Presidency

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has criticized former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi for condemning the demolition of structures along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Obi recently labeled the project a “misplaced priority” amidst pressing national challenges and called for its discontinuation to address other urgent issues in the country. He also highlighted various abandoned road construction projects across Nigeria, expressing doubt over their completion within the next three decades.

Obi expressed deep concerns over the insensitivity of the President Tinubu-led government and emphasized the adverse effects of the highway project on businesses and residences within the designated right-of-way. He lamented the destruction of livelihoods, loss of investments, and job losses resulting from the demolition of affected areas.

In response, Onanuga accused Obi of hypocrisy, citing instances during Obi’s tenure as Anambra governor when he reportedly demolished houses for road construction without compensating the affected residents. Onanuga labeled Obi as “an incurable hypocrite” for criticizing the current government’s actions while allegedly engaging in similar practices in the past.

Onanuga’s remarks underscored a perceived inconsistency in Obi’s stance, portraying him as hypocritical for condemning actions taken by the Tinubu administration that mirror actions he purportedly took as governor of Anambra State.
