Police officers from Abuja stormed the home of Sholabomi, wife of Ayotunde Richards, a gospel singer and former member of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), seeking her arrest. This follows Ayotunde’s remand in Ikoyi Prison over alleged cyberbullying and libel against the MFM General Overseer, Daniel Olukoya. Although a Federal High Court in Lagos granted Ayotunde bail, he has yet to fulfill the bail conditions.

At least eight officers from the Federal Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja visited Sholabomi’s residence in Magboro, Ogun, citing a petition against her, but failed to show her the petition. The family’s lawyer, Mr. Adesina Ogunlana, confirmed the incident in a Facebook video. Despite obtaining her statement without revealing the petition, the police opted not to arrest her, considering her three young children who would be left without care.

Ayotunde and a 23-year-old blogger, Adewale Ajimosogbe, were accused of libel against Olukoya. The duo, despite being granted bail by the Lagos court, have not met the bail conditions, which include providing sureties with landed properties in Lagos. The delay in meeting bail conditions has prolonged their stay in prison.

Richards was arrested following a petition from Davidson Adejuwon, who accused him of cyberbullying and libel against Olukoya. Similarly, Ajimosogbe was arrested for republishing a SaharaReporters’ story alleging Olukoya’s involvement in illegal activities within the MFM. Both individuals have legal cases against Olukoya and others for alleged violations of their fundamental human rights.

In summary, police action against Ayotunde’s family underscores the complexity and contentiousness surrounding the allegations against him and the broader legal battle involving the MFM leadership.
