The agency refuted claims that two of its staff members shot at a member of the public and were subsequently attacked by an angry mob. In a statement shared on X, the DSS urged individuals to contact the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer for further inquiries into the incident.
Reports initially surfaced regarding the killing of a male resident on Wednesday at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) mega filling station in Obalende. The victim’s identity remains unknown, but it was reported that he was shot dead while attempting to purchase fuel amidst the ongoing scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).
The fatal altercation occurred during an argument over queue position at the filling station, leading to a scuffle between the victim and another individual. Witnesses reported that the victim was shot and killed during the altercation, after which the perpetrator fled the scene.
Conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the identity of the perpetrator, with some witnesses alleging that the killer was a police officer while others claimed the individual was a DSS operative. Following the incident, enraged youths in the area took action, setting fire to two Hilux vehicles belonging to the police and the DSS.
