Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was slated to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit hosted by the Corporate Council on Africa, faced an unexpected change of plans due to technical issues with his aircraft. Originally scheduled to join political and business leaders from Africa, the United States, and beyond for high-level dialogues and networking sessions, Shettima had to make a detour.

The summit, scheduled from May 6 to May 9, 2024, aims to facilitate economic cooperation and explore investment opportunities between the United States and African countries. Despite the setback, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, stepped in to represent President Tinubu at the event.

According to a statement by Shettima’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President had to follow the advice of the Presidential Air Fleet managers. As a result, he will focus on other national duties while Tuggar attends the summit in his stead.

The high-profile gathering at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, will bring together political and business leaders from various African nations, the United States, and other regions. Notable attendees include President Joseph Boakai of Liberia, President Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, President Joao Lourenço of Angola, President Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi of Botswana, President José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Deputy Prime Minister Nthomeng Majara of Lesotho.

The US-Africa Business Summit seeks to foster economic cooperation and identify investment opportunities between the United States and African countries. With its emphasis on dialogue, networking, and exploring potential partnerships, the summit aims to strengthen ties between the two regions and promote mutual prosperity.
