Electricity Tariff Hike: Since Tinubu Doesn’t Have Ear Problem Like Buhari, He Should Listen To Nigerians, Remove Power Minister – Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has criticized the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, for what he perceives as the mistreatment of Nigerians due to the segregation of electricity supply into different bands amid rising electricity tariffs, fuel scarcity, and price hikes. Effiong argued that if President Tinubu is serious about addressing these issues, he should dismiss the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, for incompetence and insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians.
Addressing journalists, Effiong emphasized that the current suffering experienced by Nigerians, particularly regarding electricity supply, is unacceptable. He denounced the segregation of electricity supply into different bands, likening it to apartheid-era practices in South Africa. Effiong highlighted the lack of empathy and sensitivity from the Minister of Power and called for his removal from office, suggesting that President Tinubu should reshuffle his cabinet to demonstrate responsiveness to the people’s concerns.
Effiong characterized the current situation as a form of terrorism inflicted upon Nigerians by the government, as the lack of electricity and fuel severely impacts daily life and raises questions about the government’s commitment to addressing the country’s problems. He questioned why Nigerians continue to endure such hardships despite the abundant resources in the country and urged President Tinubu to take decisive action to alleviate the suffering of the people.
Furthermore, Effiong criticized the disparity in access to electricity, pointing out that if the Aso Rock Villa and the National Assembly have reliable power supply, all parts of the country should have the same access. He highlighted the detrimental effects of power outages on various aspects of life, including access to justice in courts that rely on generators due to unreliable electricity supply.
Effiong’s remarks underscored the urgent need for the government to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and address the systemic issues contributing to the ongoing challenges faced by Nigerians. He called for tangible solutions to improve electricity supply and ensure that all Nigerians have access to basic amenities, such as electricity and fuel, to enhance their quality of life and promote social justice.
