The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of 14 students from the Confluence University of Science and Technology who were abducted by bandits while studying for exams. The bandits stormed the campus, shooting into the air to instill fear before kidnapping the students. The police, along with local vigilantes, launched a rescue operation resulting in the safe return of some students, while others managed to escape during the exchange of gunfire.

The state government, through the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, commended the security forces and local hunters for their efforts in rescuing the students. The government emphasized Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to ensuring the security of Kogi State residents. However, during a visit to the school campus, Governor Ododo expressed concern about insider collaboration in the abduction, noting that CCTV cameras were mysteriously turned off during the attack.

Despite the successful rescue mission, the government revealed that a local hunter and a DSS operative sustained injuries and are receiving medical treatment. The exact number of rescued students was not specified, but the government assured that efforts were ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining abducted students. Governor Ododo had earlier assured the public of the safe return of the abducted students and pledged to apprehend the kidnappers.

The state government urged residents to report anyone with gunshot wounds in their communities to law enforcement agencies. The success of the rescue operation highlighted the state government’s determination to combat insecurity and protect its citizens.
