Nigerian Secret Police, DSS Denies Invading Ogun High Court To Arrest Two Defendants Against Judge’s Directive

The Department of State Services (DSS) refutes allegations of invading the Ogun State High Court in Ilaro and arresting two defendants against the judge’s orders. Initially, reports claimed DSS personnel stormed the court premises and forcefully removed Alhaji Isiaka Fatai and Samuel Oyero, who were part of a trial presided over by Justice A.A. Shobayo. The trial pertained to alleged arson filed by Chief Akeem Adigun against Fatai, Oyero, and others. Witnesses described a scene of panic and physical assault, with Fatai allegedly subjected to beating and rough handling by the DSS operatives.
Kehinde Bamiwola, representing Fatai, voiced concerns over the treatment his client endured, emphasizing the severity of the physical assault. Additionally, Omololu Olusanya, the Principal Registrar of the Court, condemned the actions of the DSS operatives, labeling them as shocking and disrespectful to the rule of law.
However, DSS spokesperson Dr. Peter Afunanya vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that no DSS personnel invaded the court or carried out any arrests within the premises. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to upholding the rule of law in all its operations.
In summary, conflicting narratives emerge regarding the reported incident at the Ogun State High Court. While witnesses and legal representatives allege misconduct and physical assault by DSS operatives, the agency maintains its adherence to the rule of law and denies any involvement in the purported arrests.
