Tinubu Orders Review Of Tertiary Institutions’ Governing Boards To Reflect Federal Character

President Bola Tinubu has directed a thorough review of the governing bodies of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to ensure they reflect the federal character and national representation. The announcement comes after the recent constitution of these boards, which drew public criticism for not adequately representing all states. The Federal Ministry of Education has released the list of nominees for chairpersons, Pro-Chancellors, and board members of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. However, concerns were raised about some states receiving only one nomination while others received multiple. Tinubu, through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, acknowledged these concerns and pledged to ensure strict adherence to the principle of federal character as outlined in the constitution. The review will prioritize national spread and aim to ensure equitable representation from all parts of the country. The inauguration and retreat for the nominees are scheduled for May 31.
