President Bola Tinubu recently initiated the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, hailing it as a significant undertaking during a ceremony held on Victoria Island, Lagos State. He deemed the project as a testament to enduring legacy, foreseeing its impact lasting for generations to come.

The event saw the presence of notable figures including Minister of Works Dave Umahi, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and various governors. Tinubu emphasized the road’s importance, stating it transcends mere infrastructure, symbolizing hope, unity, and prosperity. He envisioned the road connecting communities, fostering economic growth, and providing opportunities for millions.

Tinubu highlighted the road’s potential to generate direct and indirect employment, stimulate economic activity, and facilitate community development. He stressed the importance of leveraging Nigeria’s maritime industry and recent UN approval for the extension of the country’s continental shelf.

Additionally, Tinubu underscored the road’s role in improving security, promoting tourism, and establishing export processing zones along the coastal states. He encouraged investment in economic ventures along the shoreline, ensuring protection against ocean surge, particularly in Ondo State.

Tinubu outlined the expansive scope of the project, revealing plans to connect it with the Badagry-Sokoto expressway through two spurs. He expressed confidence in the success of the 700 km coastal road, affirming Nigeria’s capability to achieve even greater feats.
