APC Governorship Candidate, Sylva Rejects Bayelsa Tribunal Ruling, Heads To Appeal Court

Timipre Sylva, the gubernatorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, has decided to contest the ruling of the governorship election tribunal, which upheld Douye Diri’s victory as the state governor. Sylva, a former Minister of State for Petroleum, expressed dissatisfaction with the tribunal’s decision and instructed his legal team to pursue justice at the Court of Appeal.

He conveyed his disappointment over the tribunal’s judgment and assured the people of Bayelsa that they should remain hopeful as they pursue justice through the appellate court. Sylva criticized the tribunal, alleging prejudice during the case’s hearing and pointing out various irregularities observed by his legal representatives.

Previously, the tribunal, led by Justice Adekunle Adeleye, dismissed the petition filed by the APC candidate, citing lack of merit. The tribunal unanimously ruled that the petitioners failed to provide credible evidence to support their allegations against Diri’s reelection victory. It also deemed the prayers of the petitioners contradictory.

Sylva’s decision to challenge the tribunal’s ruling underscores his determination to seek legal recourse and uphold the interests of his party and supporters. He emphasized the importance of justice for the people of Bayelsa and urged them to remain steadfast in their support.

Despite the setback at the tribunal, Sylva remains optimistic about the prospects of success at the Court of Appeal. He reiterated his commitment to pursuing legal avenues to ensure that justice prevails in the state’s gubernatorial election dispute.

In summary, Sylva’s rejection of the tribunal’s ruling and his decision to appeal to the Court of Appeal reflect his unwavering resolve to challenge the outcome of the election and seek redress through legal means.
