APC Criticizes Enugu Governor for Demolitions, Urges Victims to Sue

The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned Governor Peter Mbah for the demolition of businesses, labeling it as “economic terrorism” against the people of Enugu State. During a tour of the demolition sites, state party leaders denounced the actions, describing them as part of a land-grabbing scheme benefiting political cronies.
APC State Chairman, Chief Ugochukwu Agballah, called on the House of Representatives to establish an administrative panel of inquiry to investigate the demolitions and ensure appropriate compensation for affected individuals and businesses. He emphasized the need for a national public inquiry to address the alleged impunity in Enugu and hold Governor Mbah accountable for violating citizens’ constitutional rights.
Agballah urged victims of the demolitions to seek legal redress and pledged the party’s full support in their pursuit of justice. He condemned what he termed as “unbridled dictatorship, impunity, and wickedness” displayed by the governor through the demolition exercises.
The party warned Governor Mbah against further demolitions of parks, markets, and other properties marked for destruction. Agballah highlighted the extensive damage caused by the demolitions, including financial losses, economic decline, and social unrest, affecting families and businesses across the state.
He criticized the governor for disregarding court orders, particularly in the case of the Holy Ghost/Railway/Okpara Avenue axis and the demolition of properties belonging to the Nigeria Railway Corporation. Agballah lamented the destruction of essential facilities, such as the OSISATECH Polytechnic and buildings housing motherless babies, which resulted in the tragic loss of lives.
The APC denounced the alleged land-grabbing tactics employed by the ruling party in Enugu, accusing them of seizing public spaces and properties for personal gain. They called for a thorough investigation into the destruction and unlawful takeover of properties, expressing hope that the House of Representatives’ intervention would bring accountability and justice to the affected communities.
This statement by the APC reflects growing concerns over the governance and property rights issues in Enugu State, highlighting the need for transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law in government actions.
