Nigerian Police Confirm Eight Dead In Borno Suicide Bombing, 15 Injured

The Borno State Police Command has confirmed a tragic incident involving a suicide bombing in Gwoza Local Government Area, resulting in eight deaths and fifteen injuries on June 29, 2024. According to ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the explosion occurred at Mararaba T. Junction in Gwoza town around 15:40 hours. The bomber, a woman carrying a baby, detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at a busy motor park, killing herself, her baby, and six others. Those injured are currently receiving treatment at General Hospital Gwoza.Earlier reports from SaharaReporters indicated that among the victims was a Nigerian Army soldier, killed when two suicide bombers, one carrying a baby, detonated IEDs near a military base in Gwoza. The first bomber infiltrated a wedding venue, posing as a guest, and detonated the device. A second bomber, disguised as a mourner at the burial of the victims, triggered another explosion, resulting in one additional casualty.The Nigerian Army troops at the 192 Brigade successfully repelled subsequent attacks by the terrorists. The incidents underscore the ongoing security challenges in the region, where insurgents exploit public gatherings to inflict harm.
