Magistrate Court Remands Nigerian In Prison For Stealing Phones Worth Over N2.9Million

Osita Igwe, a 40-year-old Nigerian, has been remanded in Enugu Correctional Centre by His Worship Nelson Egbo of the Enugu North Magistrate Court. Igwe faces charges related to robbery and conspiracy for allegedly stealing mobile phones and other valuables. The case, documented as MEN/541/2024, involves three counts against Igwe. He is accused of robbing Chijioke Mba on July 5, 2024, at the Ebeano Tunnel area in Enugu. The stolen items include four iPhones, a Samsung Fold 4, a black iPhone cord, and an envelope containing $500, with the total value exceeding N2.9 million.The police prosecutor, Emma Ugwu, stated that Igwe’s actions violated sections of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act and the Criminal Code (Amendment) Law of 2009. The specific charges include conspiracy to commit robbery, using violence to steal, and attempting to unlawfully imprison Mba.Igwe pleaded not guilty to the charges when presented in court. Consequently, Chief Magistrate Nelson Egbo ordered his remand at Enugu Maximum Custodial Centre. The case is set for further hearing on September 20, 2024.
