Ohanaeze Condemns Call By Canada-Based Nigerian On Igbo To Poison Yoruba, Edo People, Calls For Sanctions
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo socio-cultural organization, has denounced a viral video urging Igbo people to poison Yoruba and Edo individuals. The video, posted by a TikTok user named @Anyi_anambra, features a woman identified as Amaka Patience Sunnberger advocating for the mass poisoning of Yoruba and Edo people. This disturbing call was deemed a “macabre dance” by Ohanaeze, which demanded that security agencies investigate and bring the instigators to justice. In a statement issued by Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze emphasized that the video represents the work of a “deranged psychopath” rather than a genuine Igbo sentiment. They argued that no true Igbo person would endorse such violence, given their history of peaceful integration and contribution to various communities. Ogbonnia highlighted the cultural and social bonds shared between the Igbo, Yoruba, and Edo peoples, underscoring that acts like these are out of character for the Igbo.Ohanaeze further addressed concerns raised by the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Jare Ajayi, who had forwarded the video to Ohanaeze, urging immediate action. The organization pointed out that such inflammatory rhetoric only serves to sow discord and conflict among ethnic groups that have long enjoyed peaceful coexistence.Ambassador Okey Emuchay, the Secretary General of Ohanaeze, also condemned the video, labeling the individual behind it as a “mischief-maker” intent on creating ethnic strife where none exists. He reiterated that despite minor deviations, the historical and cultural relationships between the Igbo, Yoruba, and Edo communities remain strong and positive.Ohanaeze assured the Yoruba and Edo communities of their solidarity and called on Nigerian security agencies to take swift action against those responsible for the video. The organization stressed that such provocations are meant to incite hatred and should be disregarded as baseless and foolish. They urged vigilance and unity among the ethnic groups to counteract these divisive efforts.
