Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed suggestions to focus on the 2027 presidential election, stating that his priority is addressing the current economic and social challenges faced by Nigerians. This response came after Chief Bode George, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees, advised Atiku to set aside ambitions for 2027 and follow President Joe Biden’s example of stepping aside for a younger candidate.Atiku, through his media adviser Paul Ibe, emphasized that his main concern is the immediate plight of Nigerians under the current administration. He criticized the present government’s policies, which he argues have exacerbated poverty and hardship, calling for urgent attention to these issues rather than focusing on future political contests.Atiku also challenged Bode George to direct his efforts towards advising President Bola Tinubu on revising policies that have worsened the economic situation in Nigeria, instead of discussing political plans for 2027. He highlighted that the 2023 mandate has yet to bring significant improvements, and addressing present challenges should be the priority for all involved in governance and politics.
