Civic Centre CHSR Condemns Assassination Of Lagos Monarch’s Son, Akinloye, Alleges Cover-Up By Nigerian Police
The Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) has condemned the assassination of Prince Kazeem Ademola Akinloye, the son of Oba Tijani Akinloye, which occurred on August 26, 2024, on Chevron Drive in Lagos. CHSR has criticized the Nigerian Police and Lagos State government for their handling of the case, alleging a cover-up and a lack of progress in investigations.In a statement, CHSR President Alex Omotehinse urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to publicly denounce the killing and ensure a thorough investigation. The organization stressed that the investigation should be carried out by officials of high integrity to avoid any compromise.CHSR also highlighted their concerns regarding the unresolved murder of Mr. Sheriff Ishola Salami, who was killed in April 2023. Despite the passage of sixteen months, there has been no significant progress in the case. Omotehinse expressed frustration over the perceived inaction and alleged attempts to cover up the investigation by the police.The group emphasized that the motive behind both murders needs to be thoroughly investigated to address the concerns of the local community. They condemned the state’s failure to ensure justice and warned that the lack of accountability emboldens criminals. CHSR called for prompt and transparent investigations into both cases, stressing that only a fair investigation could reveal the perpetrators and bring them to justice.Omotehinse also urged the media and public to support their call for justice and to hold both the police and Lagos State government accountable for their handling of these cases.
