APC Party Planning To Recruit Fake INEC Workers To Rig Edo Election – PDP Raises Alarm
The Edo State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of plotting to rig the upcoming election by using fake Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) personnel. According to Aziegbemi, APC plans to use these counterfeit staff to manipulate the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to inflate voter accreditation figures.Addressing journalists in Benin City, Aziegbemi highlighted that the APC failed to meet INEC’s requirement of providing agents for all 3,037 polling units in the state. Instead, he claimed the APC only managed to submit agents for 1,482 polling units. This, he argued, demonstrates the party’s lack of organizational competence and raises concerns about its trustworthiness in governance.Aziegbemi urged INEC to publish the names and pictures of all appointed Registration and Technical Officers (RTECs) for transparency. He criticized the APC for allegedly resorting to fraudulent tactics due to its inability to win the election through legitimate means. In response, APC Campaign Council Media Director Prince Kassim Afegbua dismissed the PDP’s allegations as a distraction. He claimed that the PDP itself is engaged in efforts to undermine the election, including plans to stage protests and hide incriminating evidence. Afegbua accused the PDP of trying to divert attention from their own alleged electoral malpractices and criminal activities. The exchange reflects escalating tensions between the two parties as the election approaches, with both sides accusing each other of misconduct and manipulation.
