How Bandits Attacked Niger State Community, Killed Secondary Student, Two DSS Operatives
On the morning of September 11, 2024, a violent attack by bandits targeted Bassa community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, leading to significant casualties. Zakariyau Bassa, a 20-year-old senior secondary school student, was killed during the assault. According to sources, Zakariyau was shot while trying to flee his home after hearing gunfire.The attack, which began around 5 a.m., also resulted in the deaths of at least two Department of State Services (DSS) officers and injuries to two others. Additionally, another civilian was killed and three others were injured by the assailants.In response to the attack, Nigerian military forces intervened and engaged the bandits, killing at least 20 of them. The community, devastated by the violence, is calling for increased security to prevent further incidents.The situation has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region. Counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama confirmed the military’s intervention and the death toll among the bandits.
