Nigerian Soldiers Dislodge Bandits’ Hideout In Kaduna, Rescue 13 Kidnapped Victims

On September 14, 2024, Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs in Kaduna State, announced that Nigerian Army troops had successfully dislodged a bandit hideout in Kaduna, rescuing 13 kidnapped victims. The operation was part of the ongoing Operation Whirl Punch, conducted by Sector 4 troops.The rescue mission was prompted by reliable intelligence indicating the presence of bandits transporting kidnapped victims near Chigulu village, Kachia Local Government Area. Upon mobilizing to the site of the suspected bandit camp, the troops engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle on elevated terrain. The confrontation forced the bandits to flee into a nearby forest, leaving their hostages behind.During the operation, troops recovered a range of dangerous weapons and other items from the bandits. The confiscated materials included an AK-47 rifle, a locally made rifle, four AK-47 magazines, 87 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five mini solar panels, five mobile phones, and N192,220 in cash. Additionally, they destroyed the bandits’ camp, including personal items and clothing.The rescued individuals, comprising six men and seven women, were taken to a military facility for debriefing and medical evaluation before being reunited with their families. Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani praised the troops for their prompt and effective response. He commended Major General MLD Saraso, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Whirl Punch, for the successful execution of the mission.
