Four Killed, 36 Hospitalised As Cholera Hits Adamawa Communities

A cholera outbreak in Adamawa State’s Yola-North Local Government Area has resulted in four deaths and 36 hospitalizations. The outbreak, which began in Alkalawa, Ajiya, and Limawa wards, escalated quickly from 20 to 40 reported cases, as confirmed by Mr. Jibrin Ibrahim, the Executive Chairman of the local council, during a visit to the Infectious Disease Control Centre (IDC) in Yola.Health workers have managed to stabilize many patients, who are now receiving ongoing treatment. The outbreak is believed to have been triggered by contaminated water sources, exacerbated by recent flooding in the affected areas. Ibrahim highlighted the role of health workers, the Red Cross, and international partners in efforts to control the spread of the disease.To prevent further cases, Ibrahim urged residents to maintain cleanliness, drink safe water, and thoroughly wash fruits and vegetables.
