Nigerian Police Confirm Attack by Gunmen in Gombe, Resulting in One Death and Several Houses Set on Fire
The Gombe State Police Command confirmed the attack, with spokesperson ASP Buhari Abdullahi stating that local residents and security personnel successfully extinguished the fires set by the assailants.

Gunmen attacked Powishi village in the Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State, resulting in the death of one individual, the burning of several houses, and the theft of livestock. The assailants, who arrived on motorcycles early Thursday morning, killed Malam Yusuf Akwara.
In a statement, the Gombe State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the attack, stating that local residents and security forces were able to put out the fires set by the attackers. Abdullahi also mentioned that although security personnel, including those from the 301 Artillery Regiment and the police, responded promptly, the assailants had already fled the scene by the time they arrived.
In response to the incident, the Gombe State Commissioner of Police, Hayatu Usman, along with commanders from the 301 Artillery Regiment and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), visited the affected community to assess the situation and offer condolences. The commissioner also confirmed that detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), along with officers from the Police Mobile Force and other police units, had been deployed to track down the attackers.
