The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has prohibited the use of firecrackers, commonly known as knockouts, during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Violators, including sellers and users of these items, will face arrest and prosecution.

In a statement issued on Saturday, SP Josephine Adeh, the Public Relations Officer of the FCT Police Command, emphasized that the measure is intended to ensure the safety of residents and protect lives and property during the festive season.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, the ban is necessary to prevent unnecessary panic and anxiety in the city caused by firecrackers. He also highlighted the significant risks they pose, such as fire hazards and other avoidable incidents.

The police urged community leaders and residents to create awareness about the dangers of fireworks and encouraged everyone to celebrate responsibly.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or violations of the ban to the Police through emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08061581938, and 07057337653.

“We wish all residents a peaceful and joyful Christmas and New Year,” Adeh concluded.
