Adelabu resigns, recommends coordinating minister for energy

The Honourable Minister of Power has formally tendered his resignation from the Tinubu cabinet.

In the letter of resignation dated 22nd April, 2026, which was addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it said the primary reason for resignation is to pursue a gubernatorial ambition in Oyo State, effective on April 30, 2026, to facilitate a smooth handover.

Adelabu, whose fake resignation surfaced in March, debunked that such information was not from him.

The minister highlights his role in advancing reforms in the power sector and has strived to implement policies and programmes aimed at transforming the power sector and ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply for all Nigerians and that he is proud of the progress that he has made in this regard.

“During my tenure, I have strived to implement policies and programmes aimed at transforming the power sector and ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply for all Nigerians. I am proud of the progress we have made in this regard, and I am confident that the foundation we have laid will continue to yield positive results.”

GOVERNMEND gathered that the outgoing minister recommends the creation of a coordinating minister for energy to drive integrated reforms across Nigeria’s power, gas, and related sectors.

He, however, emphasised that for this to sustain and consolidate the gains recorded in the power sector, stronger coordination at the highest level is required, including the appointment of a central authority to harmonise policy direction and execution.

The ex-CBN deputy governor appreciates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, cabinet colleagues, and the Ministry of Power staff for their support and guidance.
