Arrested: Kogi LG Chairman Nabbed with ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ Bags of Cash and Ammunition

In a dramatic turn of events during the Kogi State gubernatorial elections, security operatives reportedly arrested James Onoja, the council chairman of Igalamela Local Government Area.

The arrest was allegedly made on the grounds of possession of ammunition and a significant amount of cash, packed in multiple ‘Ghana-must-go’ bags. The money and ammunition were purportedly intended for use during the elections.

A viral video captured the suspects, including the council chairman, sitting on the floor near an army checkpoint, expressing regret and pleading for forgiveness.

The circumstances surrounding the arrest and the implications for the ongoing elections are yet to be fully clarified.

The elections in Kogi State have been marked by various challenges, including allegations of vote-buying and low voter turnout.

Dino Melaye, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for the cancellation of elections conducted in five local government areas in the state.
