Datti Baba-Ahmed Urges Peter Obi to Return to Labour Party if ADC Ticket Fails

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has appealed to the party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to return to the party if he fails to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Baba-Ahmed made the appeal during an interview on Trust TV, where he addressed growing discussions around Obi’s political future and the possibility of his contesting the 2027 presidency under another political platform.

Speaking during the interview, Baba-Ahmed said he holds Peter Obi in high regard and would personally work to ensure that Obi secures the Labour Party’s presidential ticket if he decides to return.

“I have much respect for Peter Obi. If he doesn’t get the ADC ticket, he should come back to the Labour Party please,” Baba-Ahmed said.

The former vice-presidential candidate added that he would make efforts to reconcile Obi with any individuals within the party who may have been offended or have disagreements with him.

“I will work for him and try to get him the ticket in the Labour Party. I will try and mend the ways between him and whoever he may have offended,” he stated.

Baba-Ahmed’s comments come amid ongoing political realignments and early discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential race in Nigeria. Obi, who served as governor of Anambra State, was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, where he garnered significant support.

The former governor had previously been a member of the Peoples Democratic Party before joining the Labour Party ahead of the 2023 elections.
