Because of the comment captioned, we listened to the video to hear what the speaker was saying and what the content of his speech was. While speaking, he made several claims, which are “That Governor Adeleke abandoned the Ilesa Water Project; That the University of Ilesa (UNILESA) charges ₦1.5 million school fees and is the most expensive university in Nigeria; That the Adeleke administration abandoned primary healthcare centres and sacked doctors.”

Osun State is one of the states in Nigeria whose governorship election is outside the country’s general election calendar due to the result of a court ruling in 2010, which declared that Rauf Aregbesola of the ACN had won the 2007 governorship election, not the PDP’s Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who had been in office since the disputed election. This legal battle shifted the electoral timeline for Osun State, resulting in its current off-cycle status.

The video has gathered reactions for and against from viewers who believe the statements made by the person cannot be true here and here.

As political activities intensify, misinformation is circulated across social media and political discussions, and this is what is happening in Osun State as the forthcoming Osun governorship election is being held in August 2026. NDRFactCheck reviewed the veracity.

Verification

Our first check is to know the identity of the person in the video speaking. We conducted a Google reverse image search from the screenshot in the video, where we found that his name is Remi Omowaiye. According to his profile, he is a Tinubist, ICT Consultant, Highway Engineering manager and from Ijesa.

Claim 1: That Governor Adeleke abandoned the Ilesa Water Project

Our findings show that Governor Ademola Adeleke suspended the project consultant for the Ilesa water project, Tawa Williams, over alleged mismanagement of the project fund in 2022, some months after he assumed office. The suspension was said to be on the recommendations of the Assets Recovery Panel after an investigation of the project because the project was carried out with a loan of $106 million.

Verdict: True

Claim 2: The University of Ilesa (UNILESA) charges ₦1.5 million school fees and is the most expensive university in Nigeria

In our investigation of the official school website of the University of Ilesa, we saw the breakdown of the school fee for all levels from 100-300level, the school which was established by the Osun State Government after upgrading the former Osun State College of Education, Ilesa into a university in 2022.  Looking at the latest tuition fee for the 2025/2026 academic session, we found that 100 level and direct entry students (200 level) minimum school fee is #239,000 and Maximum fee #1,559,000, returning 200level student minimum fee #126,000 and maximum fee #1,396,500 and for 300level minimum fee #151,500 and maximum fee #856,500.

However, while we have the figure of school fee of Unilesa, our search went further to check for the most expensive school in Nigeria, Wigwe University in Isiokpo, Rivers State, is the most expensive university in Nigeria with a tuition fee of ₦12 million per year, excluding accommodation fees.

Verdict: Misleading

Claim 3: That the Adeleke administration sacked doctors

Information gathered shows that Governor Ademola Adeleke, in 2022, sacked the recruited workers, including medical doctors, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and health workers, from the State Primary Healthcare Board.

Additionally, in a separate report, the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke revoked the appointments of health professionals hired by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, via Executive Order, which halted the appointments of medical professionals, including doctors, chemists, and community health workers.

Verdict: True

Conclusion

Findings from our investigation show that some of the claims made in the viral campaign video were true, while others were misleading. Evidence confirmed that Governor Adeleke suspended the Ilesa Water Project consultant and revoked some health workers’ appointments, including employed doctors. However, although UNILESA has programmes with fees above ₦1.5 million, the institution is not the most expensive university in Nigeria, as claimed in the video.
