Governor Alex Otti Presents “A New Beginning” Budget of N567 Billion to State Assembly

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has laid out his vision for the future with the presentation of the 2024 state budget, titled “A New Beginning,” before the Abia State House of Assembly in Umuahia.

The budget, amounting to N567,240,095,972, is strategically allocated, with a significant 84 percent earmarked for capital project expenditure and the remaining 16 percent dedicated to recurrent expenditure.

In his address to the lawmakers during the budget presentation, Governor Alex Otti acknowledged the challenges posed by limited resources but emphasized the innovative approach taken by his administration to overcome these constraints.

He highlighted the utilization of direct labor and core engineering staff as measures that have saved valuable state resources.

Governor Otti expressed confidence that the 2024 budget would build upon the modest achievements of the 2023 budget cycle, particularly during the last six months of his leadership.

“This budget presentation is significant in many ways; first, it marks the first full-year budget under our government,” Otti stated.

The governor outlined key focus areas for the proposed budget, including increased investment in road infrastructure, human capital development, healthcare and human services, social support initiatives, digitization of services, and education, among others.

Governor Otti made a commitment to enhance security across the entire state while promising to deepen development efforts in all 17 local government areas.

Despite resource limitations, he underscored his administration’s determination to innovate and address challenges effectively.
