Moniepoint CEO Says Company Struggling to Fill 500 Job Vacancies in Nigeria

Mr. Tosin Eniolorunda, the Chief Executive Officer of Moniepoint, has said the financial technology company is finding it difficult to fill about 500 job vacancies because of a shortage of qualified talent in Nigeria.

Eniolorunda made the remark while speaking at The Platform Nigeria, a public discussion event held in Lagos.

In a video from the event that has been circulating on social media, the Moniepoint CEO explained that the company recently decided to focus on hiring Nigerians instead of recruiting from other countries. However, he said the organisation has struggled to find candidates who meet the professional standards required to compete globally.

According to him, even though many Nigerians have applied for the available roles, only a few meet the level of skill and competence needed for the positions, “We made a decision that we will no longer hire from any other place than Nigeria. If you go to the Moniepoint career website, we have maybe 500 vacancies and we are struggling to find people to fill those roles,” he said.

Eniolorunda also pointed to the growing migration of skilled professionals from Nigeria, popularly known as “japa,” as another reason companies are struggling to find qualified workers.

According to him, Nigeria’s large population should provide enough skilled professionals if the country invests more in developing human capital and changing the mindset of young people, “In a country of over 200 million people, there are many alternatives to becoming a ‘big boy’ or chasing quick money,” he said.

“All we need to do is develop our human capital and change the mentality.”, he added.
